Orthopedics and Sports Medicine
Titusville Area Hospital is proud to welcome Michael Dvorkin, MD, board
certified Orthopedic Surgeon to th hospital and Orthopedic Associates
of Meadville practice. Dr. Dvorkin specializes in general orthopedic surgery
and sports medicine. With over 30 years of experience, he is well versed
in diagnosing, preventing, treating, and rehabilitating conditions and
injuries that affect the musculoskeletal system, which is made up of ligaments,
muscles, nerves, joints, tendons, and bones.
Orthopedic injuries can occur easily to anyone and vary in severity. Because
the musculoskeletal system provides support, stability and movement of
the body if an injury occurs and it is not treated, it can quickly affect
the way a person functions.
Orthopedic injuries and disorders can be treated in a variety of conservative
ways including medication, physical therapy, injections or bracing. When
severe injuries or conditions such as arthritis occur, causing extensive
damage that cannot be significantly improved by conservative treatment
approaches, surgery is often recommended.
Common orthopedic procedures are:
Arthroscopy – Arthroscopy can be performed to treat various issues affecting
joints including knee, ankle or the shoulder. Arthroscopy is not a specific
type of surgery; rather it is a minimally invasive surgical technique
in which an arthroscope is inserted through a small incision allowing
the surgeon to visualize the joint and surrounding tissue. This technique
may be used in the diagnosis and / or treatment of various injuries and
conditions or to repair or remove damaged or diseased tissue or bone.
Joint Replacement – Damage to a joint may necessitate a surgery where the joint is
replaced with a prosthesis, which mimics the natural function of the joint
to improve mobility and range of motion. Post-surgery, rehabilitation
can help a patient recover and regain strength.
Fracture Repair - A fracture is a crack or break of the bone. Depending on the severity
of the fracture, they can be treated with or without the need of surgery.
Compound fractures and fractures involving the joint often require surgery.
The surgery can involve using a metal rod, screws or plates to repair
the bone.
