TAH is once again participating in the statewide donate life hospital challenge during the month of April. The challenge is an initiative to raise awareness and provide education regarding organ, eye, and tissue donation to employees as well as the public. The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) are the organizations leading this initiative.

Friday, April 14, the hospital will participate in Blue and Green Day. This is a nationally observed day in which everyone is encouraged to wear blue and green and engage in sharing the Donate Life message to promote the importance of registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Staff and community members are invited to join the Donate Life flag-raising ceremony at 11 am (this will begin in the TAH lobby). During the ceremony; organ, eye, and tissue donor information will be presented.

The donate life mission encourages individuals to talk with family members and friends about registering as a donor. One organ donor can save up to eight lives and a tissue donor can improve the lives of more than 100 others. Anyone has the potential to be an organ donor, regardless of age, race, or medical history. Although 90 percent of Americans say they support organ and tissue donation, only 30 percent know the essential steps to take to become a donor. All major religions in the United States support organ, tissue, and cornea donation, and see it as the final act of love and generosity toward others. There are two options for those who make the decision to save the lives of others by donating organs:

Register at the Driver’s License Center when receiving or renewing a state-issued license or ID.
Visit core.org/register and enter the necessary registration information online. It only takes about a minute.
Learn the facts about organ, tissue, and cornea donation at core.org.
