October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. During this month and all year
round the Titusville Area Hospital (TAH) offers support, education and
testing to provide the earliest possible detection of breast cancer. TAH
along with the Titusville Area Health Center Foundation also provides
a program to support this initiative. The Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA)
fund began in 2010. Since then, over 384 mammograms have been performed
on patients in the TAH service area free of charge. If an area of concern
is detected on the screening mammogram and further diagnostic testing
is necessary, the program will also cover the cost of diagnostic mammograms
and Ultrasounds performed at TAH. The BCA fund is an ongoing program promoted
to the community year-round but more heavily in October. Doctors and staff
help to identify patients that could benefit from this program and provide
counsel to them about testing.
The purpose of the BCA fund is to provide mammograms at no cost to those
who are uninsured or underinsured. The goal is to decrease the incidence
of advanced breast cancer in our community by increasing awareness and
encouraging women to have annual mammograms as recommended by their healthcare
providers and national guidelines. Yearly screenings are recommended to
women over the age of 40. Early detection of breast cancer is critical
to ensure the best prognosis. The program is mainly funded by the TAH
Foundation and individual donors. For more information or to donate to
this program contact the TAH 827-1851 x1060. TAH is dedicated to providing
the highest level of care to you and your family. Titusville Area Hospital,
more than a hospital.
